GIM Honorary doctorates are conferred honoris causa, “for the sake of honour”. Honorary doctorates that can be awarded are:
♦ Doctor of Business Administration (D.B.A)
♦ Doctor of Technology (D.Tech)
♦ Doctor of Divinity (D.Div)
Criteria for Selection
An honorary degree is the highest honour the Institute can bestow. Acceptance of an honorary degree by a candidate brings honor to both the recipient and the Institute.
Through conferring honorary degrees the Institute recognizes individuals who have achieved outstanding accomplishments in management, research, scholarly works; performed exceptional public service; contributed greatly through their professional activity.
♦ The level of excellence and eminence the candidate has demonstrated in scholarship, business leadership or managerial endeavors, gaining high and sustained recognition nationally or internationally.
♦ The extraordinary nature of the candidate’s actions that have transformed the domain or organization
♦ The candidate’s reputation both online and offline
♦ In determining those candidates to recommend, the committee will attempt over time to achieve a balance across academic or professional disciplines and types of contributions and a diversity of gender and cultural backgrounds.
♦ The committee may also take into consideration those who for reasons attributable to social prejudice or ignorance may have been passed over.
The following persons are not normally eligible for consideration for an honorary degree:
♦ Current members of the Board or Senate
♦ Current or recent members of the faculty or staff of the Institutes & current students
♦ Current holders of elected office at any level (municipal, provincial, or federal)
Procedure for Consideration:
There are 4 phases in the consideration phase. The whole exercise is a rejection process with candidates gets filtered in each stage.
1. Application & Payment of Fees
♦ All candidates need to apply formally on the portal
♦ A detailed Curriculum vitae will be required
♦ Social Media links also have to be submitted
♦ Documents to support claims might be requested by Institute
♦ Two references might be requested
2. Verification of documents/claims
Services from a Big4 Auditing firm’s is utilized to conduct a formal verification of claims, background & reputation check. The verification process is totally online and non-intrusive
3. Senate Council verification
The Senate Council at its designate meeting shall receive the names or approval and review the reports. There will be vote on each name separately to agree on a consensus.
4. Announcement of Result
Results of the assessments is informed to the candidates & public announcement will be done in the Convocation Ceremony.
Note: Any kind of soliciting or influencing the Senate Council will automatically disqualify the nomination

Revocation of Degree
Degree revocation is typically reserved for serious instances of misconduct. The Senate Council bylaws state that “the Senate Council may revoke an honorary degree and all the rights and privileges connected therewith.”
Revocation is considered upon the recommendation of the Honorary Degrees Committee and is decided by a formal vote of the Senate Council.
